Jaipur

The Pink City of Jaipur is the gateway to the vibrant land of Rajasthan, is a fascinating city to explore. Named after its founder, the great warrior and astronomer, Maharaja Jai Singh II, who ruled the city form 1688 - 1744- the city of Jaipur still preserves its rich heritage with pride.

Built on a dry lakebed and nestled among the Aravalli Hills, Jaipur came into existence when the city of Amber started facing huge accommodation and water crisis. To accommodate the burgeoning population, Maharaja Jai Singh II along with talented Bengali architect named Vidyasagar drew up the plan for the new city- the city of Jaipur, which came into existence eight years later.

The history of Jaipur comes alive as you tour this beautiful city and its precious forts and palaces that form the crux of its tourist attractions such as the Amer Fort, City Palace and Hawa Mahal.

Travel to Jaipur is never complete without a trip to the colorful markets of Jaipur that are a tourist attraction unto themselves. Shopping in Jaipur can never be a dull experience, as the variety of products would leave you bedazzled and befuddled at the same time. From Bandhini fabrics to exquisite handicrafts, samples of blue pottery to Jaipur's exquisite range of Kundan jewelries- the magical shops of Jaipur are stocked with them all.

Comprising a part of the Golden Triangle of North India, the city of Jaipur is easily accessible by all means of transport. Jaipur is connected with regular flights to major destinations in India and there are a number of highways that pass through Jaipur.
